Working in Highgate

Two boroughs, one conservation-minded village.

Highgate straddles Camden and Haringey, and much of it is conservation area under either council. The practical effect is that windows, external flues and extraction routes need thought early, and original joinery, cornice and floors are usually worth keeping. We plan services around the fabric rather than through it.

The houses are tall and narrow more often than not, which makes sequencing the real skill: one staircase, deliveries on residential streets and several floors of finished rooms to protect. We programme the work floor by floor and coordinate with the designers and showrooms specifying the finishes.
